This is one of the inspired visions of the dance of Lord Ganesha. Incorporated with complex jathis, the poet’s fondness for dance matches that of his music.The song starts with musical syllables denoting the expression of the dance of the Lord, where the poet addresses Him as the Chidaakara or the one with the small form,  the Mooladhara – the origin and the Omkara – the One with the elephant face that resembles the Om. In this dance of Paramanandam or supreme bliss, the Lord ably synchronizes his movements to the accompanying rhythmic beats of the various played by the Gandharvas- the celestial beings.

4:00PM – Song 2: BhamaPravesam – Patrapravesa dharuvu

Bhama Patrapravesa dharu is an excerpt from Bhamakalapam, the first of it’s kind, choreographed by the Father of Kuchipudi – Siddhendra Yogi. In this dharu, the dancer traditionally enters as the character herself –proudly introducing herself as the most beautiful, arrogant one from amongst the 16,000 gopikas, the most beloved of her Lord Krishna, The proud daughter of King Satrajithu, she says that she is the smartest of all His wives, the one who stole His heart. She is suffering from the pangs of separation from her Lord and yearns to be with Him.

4:30PM – Song 3: Aalokaye Taarangam

‘Tarangam’ is a term given to chapters in ‘Sri Krishna Leela Tarangini’ by Sri Narayana Theertha.  In this piece, the dancer exhibits all the 3 aspects of dance  – nritta: pure dance, nritya: abhinaya, and natya: depiction of a story. The dancer stands on the rims of a brass plate and the complex rhythmic movements answer the percussion. This tarangam is in praise of Lord Maha Vishnu in his adorable avatar as Bhagwan Shri Krishna and depicts two contrasting episodes from the blue-eyed boy of Brindavan. A mischievous little boy, who steals the butter in the twinkling of an eye, and shows the universe to this mother as he gets caught eating mud. He dares to fight the venomous serpent, Kaliya, and dance with joy on his head.

5:30PM – Song 4: Neelakanta Niranjana

A composition of Saint Tyagaraja, in praise of Lord Shiva, who is addressed as “Neelakanta”, the one with blue neck, Also the poet says that he is the lord who adores crescent moon on his matted hair locks and the one who created the five elements that are the root cause of evolution. In this piece the dancer depicts the episode where the gods and demons churn the milky ocean and are terrified by the  “haalahalam” the dreadful poison that evolves out of the it. They flee to pray to Lord Shiva, who then saves the universe by  consuming the poison.

5:45PM – Song 5: Vinayakuni Valenu

This is a popular krithi, by Saint Tyagaraja, in praise of Goddess Kamakshi, the presiding deity of Kancheepuram. The dancer portrays Tyagaraja entering the shrine of Kamakshi and was awestruck to find many Ganeshas in the temple. The reason being that The Lord, Himself was born as the king of Kanchi, and was instrumental to build the temple of Kamakshi. The author then offers obeisances to The Divine Mother, who made Her son incarnate as the king.  Furthermore the author describes the story of Mooka Kavi,  a boy who was born deaf and mute.  With the blessings of Mother Kamakshi, he not only recites the Mooka Pancha Sati but was also ordained as  the 20th Sankaraacharya of  Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.

Thillana is a dance of joy, of pure nritta set to intricate rhythmic patterns and complex movements.This is one of the masterpieces of the living musical legend Dr. M Balamurali Krishna.

A popular keerthana in praise of Goddess Alamelumanga by Saint Annamacharya of 14th century. The author offers his neerajanam (aarthi) to the divine consort of Lord Venkateshwara.
